pictured above are me and my co-workers, without shoes.
Today is One Day Without Shoes in the world of Toms shoes.  The purpose is to spread awareness of the people all over the world who don't have shoes.  Toms' shoes promises to give away one pair of shoes for each pair bought.  I have two pair and I LOVE them! They are the most comfortable pair of shoes I own.  You know what's not comfortable?
Going barefoot.
In more ways than one.

For starters, I must admit that I didn't go the entire day without shoes.  I had an important meeting at an elementary school this morning and a lunch meeting at a restaurant, to which I wore shoes.  I know.  I suck.  I also wavered on whether to wear shoes to the gym.  Ultimately I went without.. but if I'm completely honest, it was embarrassing.  Work was easy (I work at a church, so I wasn't alone in the barefootness - what? thats a word!), driving was easy, but getting out in public where people don't understand was difficult.  One woman said, "are your feet hurting?"  I told her why I was shoe-less and she gave me that look.
You know, "that look."
The "wow, you're a nutso crazy person" look? Yep. I got it.  But hey, thats ok, I still spread awareness.
I got more of those looks at the gym, but people kind of got it once I explained the reason.

The days not over, and I'll be heading to community group (a group bible study) in a lil bit, barefoot.  It's been a cool day, and I hope next year I will have the guts to go the whole day, no matter what the circumstances!
