I arrived at church an hour early this week.
I walked in, sat in the back row, and listened as the band warmed up.

Music filled the building.
Voices cried out as strings played to their limits.
The sound of worship filled my ears and reached into my heart.

And I was struck with awe as the Lord revealed what a wonder it was: this loud, public worship.
And in my heart, God showed me a girl... a girl who had never worshipped Him in more than a whisper. For to do more would be excommunication, imprisonment, or death.  Who met in secret, studying the scripture by candle light.  Aware that at any moment, she could be caught and her family would be killed for it.

I wondered, then, what she would think... what she would feel... if she were to walk into this building and hear His named proclaimed so loudly -- so publicly.

So let hope rise,
And darkness tremble
In Your holy light,
And every eye will see
Jesus, our God,
Great and mighty to be praised.

God of all days,
Glorious in all of Your ways.
Your majesty, the wonder and grace,
In the light of Your name.

With everything,
With everything,
We will shout for your glory.

I wondered, then, if maybe this is how she imagined heaven.

This freedom.
This ability to shout to God at the top of your lungs.
To praise him by crying out,

And truly mean it.
Because she would.
She does.

Oh God, forgive us for our neglect. Forgive us for our complacency. Forgive us for forgetting. Forgive us for getting comfortable. Forgive us for not getting it. Forgive us. Forgive me.
