Our "beach anniversary getaway" wasn't exactly what we initially had planned.  Instead of sun, we had clouds. And instead of sand between our toes, rain poured down around us. Bathing suits were traded for long pants, and beach towels were stowed and umbrellas were at the ready.

But the great thing about being with Wade is -- it doesn't matter much what we're doing. It's going to be a good time. We mutually decided that as long as we have each other + good food, we're set ;) We're big foodies.

Once we realized that the weather wasn't going to clear up, we came to the conclusion that our "beach-iversary" was going to become a "food-iversary." No complaint here (except for the occasional "I'm so full I could burst" "my jeans no longer fit" type of complaints.)

We started with a trip to Metro Diner -- always a fave when we visit Jacksonville. Once featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives, Metro is one of the best (and busiest) breakfast spots in the area.

My choice: Crab Cake Eggs Benedict (add avocado) -- every.single.time.
Wade's choice: Shrimp & Grits

For lunch, we walked over to Al's pizza. This was THE beach hangout spot when I was in High School. Well, one of them. But it holds such nostalgia for me. It was so fun to drive around Jax Beach and point out places from my youth.

We finished of the "foodiversary day" with a family dinner at Cantina Laredo. We planned to commence the following morning, but instead were delivered the news of my nieces's early arrival up in North Carolina! And Wade & I are going to use the week we had saved to come here in a few weeks for Mary-Ellis' due date to instead go back to the beach. Hopefully there will be sun this time around ;)
