Just a few days into our move, we had the privilege of attending our first "canal" baptism. The woman who was baptized is pregnant and had her other two daughters there to witness it. It's beautiful to be able to see the picture of New Life, a washing away of the old and being raised as Christ, through baptism. And doing it in that dirty canal in Mexico... with people gathered on the shore... I can't help but remember the story of our Christ as He went down to the water to meet John the Baptist and made Himself our example. The Holy Spirit came down that day, and He came down on this day as well. You can see Him in her eyes. Pure joy.
The two men baptizing her and the one filming are from a local church in Texas who, over the last year, has begun to partner with the ministry in our colonia.
Tali (on the right) has really got that whole "serious model" pose down, right? It is like pulling teeth to get her to smile for a picture! She smiles all day long, but as soon as you pull the camera out, the straight face returns. To prove she loves me, I made her take another one where I hugged her tight. The proof is in the dimple ;)
"One day Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee, and John baptized him in the Jordan River. As Jesus came up out of the water, he saw the heavens splitting apart and the Holy Spirit descending on him like a dove. And a voice from heaven said, "You are my dearly loved Son, and you bring me great joy."
